In-Person Reading Specialist

Heber City, UT

Help change the lives of students who experience reading & language difficulties, ADHD, dysgraphia, and/or dyslexia as a contractor for Literacy Utah.

We are seeking multiple Literacy Specialist contractors to join our team for after-school reading services between the hours of 4 pm - 7 pm at the Heber clinic. Our reading specialists work with students ages 5 and up using proven structured literacy programs and Orton-Gillingham techniques.

You will be contracted to work with clients for 1 hour (45 min of teaching, 15 min of data review + notes). Families generally prefer after-school lessons during the school year (3 pm-6 pm) and daytime lessons during the summer (9 am-3 pm).

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Applicants must be willing and able to teach in person in Heber City or Park City, UT to be considered for this position.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Speech Therapy (Masters Preferred).

  • Experience teaching reading using Orton-Gillingham methods

  • 2 years of experience working with children as a teacher, specialist, or tutor. Specifically, students who have learning challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Must commit to at least 1 calendar year of working with the same students at consistent set times/days.

  • Clear background check.

Skills & Competencies

  • Understanding of reading intervention and structured literacy.

  • Enjoys students and seeks to see them grow in their literacy and understanding of self.

  • Mastery of Gmail + Google Drive.

  • Mastery of Zoom and many of its functions on your device.

  • Behavior management skills and patience in 1-1 and small group settings.

  • Deep understanding of the mission of Literacy Utah.

COMPENSATION:

Varies $25-$40 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

Literacy Utah is an educational intervention center serving clients in Wasatch Back and online. Our mission is to provide all students with an opportunity to experience literacy success! The goal at Literacy Utah is to provide families with proven, research-based, multisensory reading interventions for children and adults with learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD.

Remote Reading Specialist

Help change the lives of students who experience reading & language difficulties, ADHD, dysgraphia, and/or dyslexia. You will have the ability to create your own schedule and use the ZOOM platform to reach students all over the country. Literacy Utah is seeking multiple Literacy Specialist contractors to join our team for both our day & after-school reading services. Our online reading specialists work with students ages 7 and up using proven programs and techniques.

You will have your own clients, each will have multiple sessions every week. Specialists will set their own schedules to accommodate students in several time zones. Families will generally prefer after-school lessons during the school year (3pm-6pm) and daytime lessons during the summer (9 am-3 pm).

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (education or speech preferred).

  • Orton-Gillingham training or certification preferred (Multisensory, Barton, CALT, Wilson, etc.) Training & resources are available if not.

  • 2 years of experience working with children as a teacher, specialist, or tutor. Specifically, students who have learning challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Must commit to at least 1 calendar year of working with the same students at consistent set times/days.

  • Clear background check.

Varies $20-$30 per hour (50 min of intervention, 10 minutes of documentation) depending on experience and qualifications.
